Next year - if you so wish - you'll be able to be taught sorcery in a real-life school of witchcraft and wizardry.
Thanks to Harry Potter fan club Mimbulus Mimbletonia Association, Château de Jolibert in Bourgougnague, France will be transformed into Hogwarts for four days this coming May. The fansite's advertisement reads: "Mimbulus Mimbletonia is organising an event based on the first book in the saga, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. "Come and take part in the sorting ceremony, enrol for courses in botany, spells, potions, and of course Muggle Quidditch. Do not forget to collect points for your house, so that it can win the cup!" A slight catch: all lessons will be in French. Source Source: Daily Hive
It’s looking like a real French invasion on Vancouver’s Robson Street. Paris’ L’Éclair de Génie, the patisserie that focuses on just éclairs, is opening up their first Canadian location this spring. Mario Negris and George Richmond of CBRE represented the landlord in the deal that lands L’Éclair de Génie at 1210 Robson Street. The Parisien eclair shop will be situated just down the street from the other sweet French import, Ladurée, famous for their macarons. L’Éclair de Génie is known for their broad spectrum of novelty eclairs, in flavours like salted caramel with mascarpone, Lemon Yuzu, and special limited-edition flavours, all beautifully presented in dazzling colours with sweet accents. In addition to eclairs, they sell other sweet goodies, like caramel sauces, jams, and more. The chain has locations in France, as well as in China, Japan, and Italy. L’Éclair de Génie was launched in Paris in 2012 by UK-born Christophe Adam. "Madame Dy va revenir" ➡ en anglais: Madame Dy is going to come back...to Bear Creek and William Watson! I'm looking forward to working with all my students from last year! I hope you're all ready to get things going en français =) À bientôt!

You might not realize it, but #frenchiseverywhere =) Google Translate can be useful for short sentences or one word, but often students forget there could be more than one meaning to a word. For example, they could search the word for "band" and Google Translate would give you "bande." However, did you mean a group of people, a musical group, or a rubber band? Students forget to double check the different meanings! Google Translate also doesn't take into account the different French language rules, so if you put sentences or paragraphs into the website, it makes it VERY obvious to the teacher that you did not use what you know! Here are some AWESOME alternatives to using Google Translate: Reverso and Word Reference. The following videos shows how unreliable Google Translate can be in translating what you actually mean...check it out! Amusez-vous! Ladurée is a French luxury bakery that first started in Paris during the 19th century. It is known for a popular French dessert, the macaron! A macaron is "a French sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring." It is crunchy, chewy, and sweet. If you're ever on Robson Street, you need to stop by and say Bonjour! Oh and taking a bite of a maracron would be a good idea too! C'est tres délicieux! Check out the different flavours below...which ones would you try?
